Ms. Rabia Kherfi, President of the Algerian National Economic, Social, and Environmental Council and current President of the Union of Arab Economic and Social Councils and Similar Bodies, chaired a virtual board meeting on Monday, September 23, 2024. The meeting included the presidents of economic and social councils and similar bodies from Algeria, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, and Mauritania, with the presence of Dr. Fayez Ali Al-Mutairi, Director-General of the Arab Labor Organization and permanent sponsor of the Union’s activities.
This meeting falls within the framework of preparations for the upcoming General Assembly of the Union, scheduled to be held in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as well as finalizing its agenda.
In her opening speech, Ms. Kherfi emphasized that this meeting, taking place in specific local and international circumstances, aims to reach significant decisions and recommendations, especially regarding the preparation for the upcoming General Assembly and the examination of the Union's future activities. She also called for the activation of the Union's role to be a force of proposal and a model of dialogue and consultation, working towards achieving comprehensive development in Arab countries.
At the close of the meeting, members unanimously agreed to hold the General Assembly on November 14, 2024, in the Jordanian capital, Amman, and approved the agenda, which includes presenting the Union’s activity report and financial report, discussing the Union’s website project and visual identity, establishing a special committee to revise the Union's regulations, studying the 2025 work plan, and examining mechanisms for expanding the Union's membership.
