The meeting was attended by the presidents and representatives of the member economic and social councils, including those from Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and Mauritania, on the sidelines of their participation in the Euro-Mediterranean Summit of Arab Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions, held in Malta from June 18 to 19, 2024.

The meeting mainly focused on organizing the next General Assembly of the Union, initially scheduled for December 2023 in Amman at the proposal of the Jordanian Economic and Social Council. However, it was postponed due to the current conditions in the Arab region, particularly the war against the Palestinian people.

After consultations, it was agreed to hold a virtual meeting of the Board of Directors in the coming days to set the date and agenda for this assembly as soon as possible. Regarding the location of the meeting, the proposal from the Jordanian Economic and Social Council to host the next General Assembly of the Union in Amman was confirmed.

The participants also discussed ways to cooperate with the countries of the northern Mediterranean shore. They agreed to unify their voices and work towards cooperation that benefits all concerned countries equally, in order to strengthen relations and ensure development in the Mediterranean region. In this context, the participants proposed including a discussion on this subject in the agenda of the next General Assembly of the Union.
